BIM is deciding what products get specified

Industry data this week shows 74% of professionals rate downloadable BIM objects as very important when selecting products. Read that again if you're a manufacturer or an installer: if your system doesn't exist as a clean BIM object, you're increasingly invisible at the design stage — the phase where cladding systems, panel series, and attachment methods actually get locked in.

Federal work is heading the same direction, with BIM integration mandates attached to infrastructure programs. On the tools side, AI inside BIM workflows is automating clash detection and design optimization — fewer surprises making it to the field, more coordination happening in the model.

Modular keeps compounding

• The U.S. permanent modular construction market reached $20.5 billion in 2025 — about 5.1% of construction activity in key segments — with ~6.5% annual growth forecast through 2030.
• Premier Modular secured £360 million to expand modular healthcare and education infrastructure across the UK and Europe.
• At Fort Bliss, the Army opened the first of ten 3D-printed barracks — the Pentagon's largest deployment of robotic construction technology to date.

Prefabricated assemblies are also getting tighter energy rules: the latest ASHRAE-aligned code updates tighten thermal-envelope requirements for prefabricated light-gauge steel assemblies. Factory-built doesn't mean code-exempt — envelope performance follows the module.
